Cyber police uncover scam targeting serviceman
Cyber police and investigators from the Cherkasy district police department, together with the criminal analysis department of the regional police headquarters and under the supervision of the Cherkasy district prosecutor’s office, uncovered a scammer who misappropriated funds from a serviceman.
A 31-year-old resident of Cherkasy, previously convicted, gained access to the financial account of a Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier and transferred over 45,000 hryvnias to his own account. During a search of his residence, law enforcement officers found evidence confirming his involvement in the crime.
The man has been charged with suspicion and faces 5 to 8 years in prison. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are working to identify other possible victims of this scammer.
