In the evening of May 24, in Zakarpattia, a border guard officer detected two border violators.
After warning shots in the air, both attackers assaulted the border guard and took his weapon.
One of the attackers fired five shots at the border guard, but missed, after which both fled to Romania.
Zakarpattia journalist Vitaliy Hlahola reported that the incident was confirmed by OBOZ.UA sources and entered into the ERDR.
«At the section of the OPS ‘Dilove’ — OPS ‘Bohdan’, a border patrol, which was responding to the signal mine activation, was attacked by border violators.
After detecting two men near the border, the border guard fired two warning shots in the air. Instead of stopping, the violators attacked the border guard and took his ‘Fort 12 R’ pistol. During their escape, they fired five shots at the border guard, but fortunately did not hit him,» Hlaghola pointed out.
He added that the border guard’s colleagues arrived to help, but the attackers managed to escape to Romania with the stolen weapon.
The incident was confirmed by law enforcement agencies, including the National Police, the SBU, and the DBR. The investigation is currently ongoing.
