Berlin-based DOM Publishers to Release Book on Soviet Modernism in Zaporizhzhia
Berlin-based publishing house DOM publishers is set to release a new book titled «Total Modernism. Mass Housing and Urbanism in Soviet Zaporizhzhia. 1958–1985», written by historians Mykhailo Mordovskyi and Pavlo Kravchuk from Zaporizhzhia. According to Kravchuk, this collaboration will bring the city’s history to an international audience.
Exploring Architectural Modernism in Soviet and Ukrainian Context
The book focuses on architectural modernism in Zaporizhzhia from the late 1950s to the 1980s, highlighting the often underestimated period in domestic architecture. Kravchuk stresses the importance of recognizing this Soviet and Ukrainian heritage with global significance.
Expanding the Conversation on Fragile Architectural Heritage
Building on this publication, a Ukrainian-German book titled «Fragile Heritage. Architectural Modernism of the Ukrainian South and East: late 1950s–1980s» was also recently published, along with the creation of a website dedicated to the architectural modernism of the region under the name «Fragile Heritage.»
