Apple has refused to host two retro gaming emulator apps in the App Store. One of them is the iDOS 3 DOS games emulator, and the other is UTM SE, which emulates operating systems, including Windows, on iOS.
Developers claim that Apple rejected their apps for violating rules that do not allow the use of emulators for other systems, except for retro gaming consoles. In particular, the UTM SE developer was denied due to restrictions on the use of code that alters the functions of other programs.
The developers’ representatives also noted that Apple did not provide clear guidelines on what needed to be changed to obtain approval. They expressed the opinion that the reason for rejection was that computers are not considered consoles in the context of the App Store rules.
