Success of «House of Words: An Unfinished Novel»

According to official information, the success of the art film «House of Words: An Unfinished Novel» turned out to be so impressive that the project team decided to extend the screening until June 5th. From the premiere on May 9th to May 28th, over 83,000 viewers watched this film in almost all of Ukraine, with box office earnings totaling 12.808 million UAH in the first three weekends of screening.

About the Film

The script of this black and white film set in the 1930s is based on real events from 1927-1933. Kharkiv became the place where the most prominent figures of Ukrainian literature were gathered in one house for «re-education» in the spirit of communism. Due to repression, most of them either perished or ended up in camps. The film highlights how only those who broke and «reformed» to conform to socialist realism survived.

Cast and Production

Taras Tomenko, Lyubov Yakymchuk, Mykhailo Lyubarsky, Shevket Seydametov, Alla Zagaykevich, and other renowned professionals took part in the creation of this film. The lead roles were played by Dmytro Oliynyk, Viacheslav Dovzhenko, Nina Naboka, Marina Koshkina, and others.
