The Stryi District Court Verdict

The Stryi District Court of Lviv region has found a local volunteer guilty of evading military service during mobilization. Instead of a three-year prison sentence, the court has sentenced the accused to a year of probation, according to «Glavkom» citing the court registry.

Case Details

In August 2022, the military conscript passed the military commission successfully. In May 2023, the Territorial Military Commissariat informed the accused about his assignment to a military unit for training. The man ignored the call, leading to criminal proceedings against him.

During the trial, the accused admitted his guilt, confirming that he did not report to the military unit without valid reasons. He requested the court not to sentence him to imprisonment, highlighting his involvement in volunteer activities and providing evidence of donating two cars to the Ukrainian Armed Forces;

These actions were through the charitable organization «Charitable Foundation ‘We are Ukraine’.» The court considered the volunteer work and sincere remorse as mitigating circumstances, leading to the decision of probation instead of imprisonment.

«The court, taking into account the seriousness of the crime, the personality of the guilty party, mitigating circumstances, and the absence of significant complicating factors, concludes that the accused can be rehabilitated without serving a sentence,» the verdict states.
