In February 2024, the volume of freight transportation in Ukraine increased by one third compared to February 2023 and was 3% higher than in January. This was announced by the Vice Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine — Minister of Development of Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure, Oleksandr Kubrakov, on his Facebook page on Friday, March 1.
«This indicates stability in the growth of export volumes and the achievement of our main task — reaching the indicators of 2021,» the official assured.
The company’s press service clarified that 53% of the volume of freight transportation accounted for exports. In particular, in February, 5.2 million tons of goods were exported through port railway stations, and 2.6 million tons through western border crossings. Grain cargo through port stations amounted to 2.8 million tons, and through western border crossings — 537 thousand tons.
In terms of domestic transportation, which was surpassed by exports in volume, over 5.8 million tons were transported in February, which is 6% higher than in February 2023.
Imports in February increased by 65% to 872.4 thousand tons compared to February 2023.
Ukrzaliznytsia believes that the growth in freight transportation volume in February was facilitated by the active work of the Ukrainian maritime corridor. Export via the maritime corridor reached a record 8 million tons in February.
Earlier it was reported that in January 2024, Ukrzaliznytsia also transported a record volume of 7.5 million tons of goods.
