The White House will oppose a bill on funding Israel’s security if it does not include a request from President Joe Biden for joint support for Taiwan and Ukraine. This was stated by the Coordinator for Strategic Communications of the National Security Council, John Kirby, at a briefing at the White House, RBC-Ukraine reports.
White House Criticizes Proposal for Separate Bill on Israel Funding
He criticized the idea of House Speaker Mike Johnson to introduce a separate bill on funding Israel after Iran’s attacks on the country over the weekend. Kirby emphasized that such a bill will not receive President Biden’s support.
«We will be against any bill that only focuses on Israel,» Kirby said.
Democrats Receive Signal to Vote Against Bill
These comments give Democrats in Congress a clear signal to vote against such a bill if it is brought up for consideration. The Democratic party has already called on Johnson to bring another bill to the Senate, which takes into account all additional requirements of President Biden in the field of national security.
Kirby’s comments came just minutes after Biden confirmed on Monday the support for Israel by his administration following Iran’s attack on the country last weekend.
