The Challenges of Road Repair in Kharkiv Region

The head of the Restoration and Development of Infrastructure Department in Kharkiv region, Andriy Alekseyev, recently shared concerns about the lack of funds for the repair of the ring road in Kharkiv. Tens of billions of hryvnias are needed for this project, but without budget funding, repairs cannot move forward.

«If the state provides the necessary funds, we are ready to address the issue and begin repairs on the ring road. However, we have not yet received even minimal funding for work on sections such as Pesochin to Vysoky,» Alekseyev stated.

The budget deficit is not only affecting major repairs but also the patching up of potholes, which could threaten the accessibility of certain roads in the region. One such route at risk of becoming impassable is the R-78 Kharkiv — Zmiiv — Balakliya — Horokhivka.

Currently, repair crews are focusing their efforts on the Kyiv highway, but progress is slow due to limited funds. In late February, the government allocated funds specifically for the repair of the Kharkiv-Kyiv route, providing a glimmer of hope for improved infrastructure in the region.
