Ukraine Moves Closer to Putin’s ‘Red Line’ after U.S. Grants Permission to Strike Russia

After the United States granted Ukraine permission to use its weapons to strike Russia, Kyiv moved closer to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s «red line». This is discussed in an article by Newsweek.

Ukraine Requestsfor Weapon Use Intensify:

Ukraine’s requests for the use of weapons on Russian territory intensified in May, when enemy forces made advances in Kharkiv, and the Ukrainian Armed Forces were unable to repel missile strikes on the northeastern border of the state. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s comment that Washington is «adjusting» to war reflects its support for increased military aid to Ukraine.

U.S. Supplying Weapons to Ukraine:

Instead of Javelin and Stinger missiles, the U.S. is supplying Ukraine with HIMARS rocket systems and M1 Abrams tanks. In the future, Ukrainians will receive F-16 fighters from the U.S. allies. However, long-range strikes, including ground-based ATACMS missile systems, remain off the table for Ukraine, indicating caution on the part of the Biden administration.

The ‘Red Lines’ of the Kremlin:

The Kremlin, presenting its invasion of Ukraine as a proxy conflict between Russia and NATO, uses «red lines» during the war, offering nuclear actions in case of a threat to the state’s existence, although this remains undefined.

«As long as Putin has not translated his promise to punish the West for its support of Ukraine into military action, but will this remain the case in the future, and what are his ‘red lines’ remaining undefined, especially in light of the nuclear weapons exercises announced in May? Newsweek has reached out to the Kremlin for comment,» the article states.
