Changes in Renouncing Ukrainian Citizenship for Dual Citizens

Ukraine has recently implemented new rules regarding renouncing Ukrainian citizenship for men with dual citizenship. According to legal experts, male dual citizens must now personally visit Ukraine to officially renounce their Ukrainian passport, in order to obtain permanent residence abroad. This includes deregistering their place of residence in Ukraine and settling military registration issues, which will serve as the basis for the renunciation of Ukrainian citizenship.

On the other hand, women with dual citizenship can still use a proxy to renounce one of their passports without the need to physically come to Ukraine.

It is important to highlight that men of conscription age, between 18 and 60 years old, who are mandatory military registrants, are still required to defend Ukraine, regardless of holding a passport from another country.
