Since the beginning of this summer, Russian occupiers from Russian territory have launched over 2,000 attacks on the Sumy region using rockets, KABs, artillery, mortars, and drones. To reduce the number of such attacks, a buffer zone needs to be established in the Kursk region. This was reported on August 13 by Ukraine’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko, via Telegram.
«Creating a buffer zone in the Kursk region is a step aimed at protecting our border communities from daily enemy shelling,» the message states.
According to the minister, due to the constant Russian terror, the priority is to evacuate the population from 183 settlements in 15 territorial communities of the Sumy region. More than 20,000 people have already been evacuated, including nearly 2,500 children.
«The military provides the Ministry of Internal Affairs with information on the needs for supplying local residents with drinking water, food, medicines, and hygiene products so that we can quickly organize humanitarian aid in coordination with other relevant agencies. All our humanitarian initiatives are carried out in strict accordance with international law,» Klymenko added.
