Kharkiv native Andriy Lunin saves two penalties in Champions League match

Andriy Lunin, a product of Krasnohrad in Kharkiv region, led Madrid’s «Real» to the Champions League semi-finals by becoming the hero of the match against English «Manchester City». In a thrilling game, he saved two penalties, securing the victory for his team.

The quarter-final match against «Manchester City» ended in a 3-3 draw in Spain on April 9, and in England on April 17 it was also a 1-1 draw. The penalty shootout ended with a 4-3 victory for «Real», thanks to an impressive performance by Lunin.

Andriy Lunin, who is 25 years old, started his career in a sports school in Krasnohrad and continued his training at the «Metalist» football academy in Kharkiv. He has played for «Dnipro» and «Zorya», and since 2018 has been playing for «Real». His performance in the Champions League could secure a place in the starting lineup as he has played 28 matches and conceded 20 goals.

«Real» is one of the strongest and most successful clubs in Europe, having won the Champions Cup and the Champions League 14 times — more than any other club. In the next round, they will face Munich’s «Bayern» with the first matches on April 30 and the return matches on May 8.
