Ukrainian Parliament to Adopt Key Bills to Strengthen Local Communities
According to the head of the Committee on Organization of State Power, Local Self-Government, Regional Development, and Urban Planning, Olena Shulyak, the Ukrainian parliament expects the adoption of a number of bills by the end of 2024. These laws are aimed at strengthening the financial capacity of communities, facilitating access to state services in the regions, and promoting more active citizen participation in local self-government and strategic decision-making.
One of the main goals of these bills is to provide residents of communities with greater ability to influence decisions that affect their lives. In particular, they involve creating mechanisms to involve citizens in making key decisions at the community level and implementing public consultation practices.
Olena Shulyak also noted the need for the adoption of bills, including №6319, 4295, 7283, and 4298, which will be important steps in improving citizen participation in decision-making and local self-government development. In particular, bill №4295 «On People’s Power in Communities» envisages the development of mechanisms for people’s power and increasing citizen engagement in making important decisions.
It is important to note that these bills are part of the European Union’s Ukraine Facility program, which aims to support reforms and development in Ukraine.
