Corruption Scandal Uncovered in Dnipropetrovsk Region
Today, on June 25, the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office announced the disclosure of a bribery scheme organized by a patrol police inspector and his colleagues from the Dnipropetrovsk region.
According to the investigation, from July to November 2023, the suspects systematically extorted money from drivers of vehicles. They often targeted military personnel, taxi drivers, and public servants who were at risk of facing administrative responsibility.
During alcohol checks, they used illegal breathalyzers that always showed an exceedance of the norm, after which they offered bribes to drivers to avoid writing a protocol.
The funds were demanded and received directly in official vehicles or premises, or transferred to the bank accounts of law enforcement officers.
After uncovering one of the police officers in November of last year, the investigation gathered enough evidence and charged other individuals. During the investigation, 17 cases of extortion and bribery were documented.
Investigators requested preventive measures, and all suspects were taken into custody in the courtroom.
