The United States and Great Britain clash over Ukraine’s NATO relations

The recent statements by American officials regarding Ukraine’s path to membership in NATO have sparked a new disagreement between the United States and Great Britain. According to a report by The Telegraph, Washington has expressed concerns about plans to provide new membership guarantees to Ukraine at the upcoming NATO summit in Washington next month.

On the other hand, Great Britain is in support of some European member states’ idea to characterize Ukraine’s NATO membership as «irreversible» in a joint statement. Despite this, The Telegraph reports that there will be no new additional assurances about Ukraine’s accession terms at the summit. However, alliance members are expected to provide new security guarantees to Ukraine as a part of their continued support.
