If the double increase in electricity tariffs is a market decision, then who will profit from this? Perhaps it will be Energoatom? This is an interesting coincidence: Energoatom has a debt of 25 billion hryvnias on the energy market, and within half a year of the new tariffs, Energoatom will additionally collect 26 billion hryvnias from the population. And this means that it will be able to pay off its debt and receive an additional 52 billion hryvnias in profit next year (calculations by energy experts).
And now the main question is: what will these new revenues from the double tariff be spent on?
The state has not presented any plan or mechanism for restoring the destroyed generation. New tariffs have already been introduced, but there have been no explanations as to where this money will go and how quickly capacities will be restored.
«Strengthening» thermal power plants like the Trypillya plant, which cost almost 10 billion hryvnias, is not being proposed.
It is not worth talking about «necessary years,» as money likes specifics. And the new tariff is a specific number with tens of zeros after the decimal point.
Also, it is not surprising that international partners may stop funding the restoration of destroyed energy facilities. If the state doubled the tariff, it is logical to assume that it will not ask for money for energy renovation from the West — this burden is already placed on consumers.
Some additional facts:
- the monthly salary of the Energoatom CEO is 400,000 hryvnias,
- last year, Energoatom purchased 10 electric buses for 270 million hryvnias to transport its personnel,
- one such bus costs $736,000,
- Energoatom also purchased cables for 33 million hryvnias for the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP and South Ukraine NPP at twice the prices,
- and allocated 540 million hryvnias for the reconstruction of the Rivne NPP. Under the new legislation, the energy monopoly officially concealed the cost of all materials purchased for this half a billion.
