Polish Minister of Agriculture, Cheslav Sekerski, has expressed his opinion on the impact of trade liberalization on Poland and other countries bordering Ukraine. He noted that the EU’s decision to open its market to Ukrainian goods without duties and quotas has had the greatest impact on the region.

Sekerski’s Concerns

Sekerski stated that in some sectors, especially in the grain industry, a complete ban on imports from Ukraine is necessary. He emphasized that farmers’ protests against the sudden increase in Ukrainian goods entering the country are justified, and corresponding requests for quotas have already been sent to the European Commission.

The Minister confirmed that Poland is in negotiations with Ukraine and intends to establish certain limits and control over product inflows.

Support for Ukraine

Sekerski noted that the EU’s decision regarding trade liberalization has had a significant impact on bordering countries. He expressed the view that this was a intended form of support for Ukraine, which the Poles have accepted with understanding and wholeheartedly.
