After a «peacekeeping mission,» Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban expressed an initiative to restore diplomatic relations with Russia in a letter he wrote to the head of the European Council, Charles Michel. This information was reported by the German tabloid Bild, which has access to the letter.

In his letter, which is about one and a half pages long in A4 format, Orban emphasized the need to consider new approaches to relations with Russia in the context of the conflict in eastern Ukraine. He also noted the results of his meetings with the leaders of Ukraine, Russia, China, Turkey, and former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Orban warned of the «radical escalation of Russia’s war against Ukraine in the near future,» calling for the European Union to demonstrate readiness for new challenges on the international stage.
