The head of the State Property Fund of Ukraine, Vitaliy Koval, has announced the approaching privatization process of the well-known winemaking enterprise «Leanka» in Transcarpathia. This historical monument of the 16th century, recognized by UNESCO as one of the top ten wine cellars in Europe. According to Koval, the privatization of the enterprise will mark a new chapter in its successful history and provide the necessary impetus for its development.
The «Land Bank» project of the SPF also plays a key role in the development of the region’s viticulture. The lands of the «Leanka» enterprise will be included in this bank, providing winemakers with the opportunity for transparent leasing for 25 years, creating a solid foundation for long-term investments and planning.
Koval also noted that Transcarpathia has ambitious plans for the development of the winemaking industry and has already registered the geographical indication «Wines of Transcarpathia» to enhance the competitiveness of local products in the market.
Previously, the Ukrainian Corporation for Viticulture and Winemaking Industry «Ukrvinprom» registered the corresponding viticultural and winemaking zones in the United States, giving Ukraine official recognition as a winemaking country. The brand Wine of Ukraine is also under registration, which will contribute to increasing the international recognition of Ukrainian wines.
Transcarpathian wine has the potential to become a high-quality product with established production traditions, which will enter the European market alongside brands such as Cava (Catalan sparkling wine) and Prosecco (produced only in 9 provinces of Italy).
