In Central Park in Kharkiv, plants that survived missile strikes will be planted

In Central Park in Kharkiv, plants that were able to survive missile strikes are planned to be planted. The park’s press secretary Andriy Kravchenko reported that during one of the strikes, a missile hit an area where small pines, junipers, and yews were growing. Thanks to the efforts of specialists, part of the plants was saved. Now these hardy plants will decorate the park’s alleys. Especially proud will be the rose bushes that, despite the explosion, survived and will give rise to a new rose garden near the «England» and «Egypt» attractions.

Damage from shelling in Central Park

The Central Park has repeatedly suffered damage as a result of shelling:

  • On April 2, 2022, several attractions were damaged;
  • On April 11, 2022, shelling knocked down several trees, attractions, and a stage in the retro zone;
  • On May 3, 2022, wooden structures of children’s attractions caught fire during shelling;
  • At the beginning of June 2022, the attraction «Roller Coaster» was hit during shelling.

Planting flowers despite the war

This year, in Central Park, it is planned to plant 11,000 flowers — three times less than before the war. The central flower bed will definitely be decorated with a squirrel figurine.

The Mayor of Kharkiv, Igor Terekhov, noted that the city will continue greening, despite the war. He emphasized that a well-groomed city with flowers is an important psychological support for both civilians and military personnel.

Future plans for greening Kharkiv

In 2024, Kharkiv plans to plant 1.7 million flowers, including in Shevchenko Park, near the Mirror Stream, and in the parks of the city’s districts. This is more than in 2023 when 1.2 million flowers were planted. In the pre-war 2021, communal services planted 2 million flowers in the city.
