Tragedy at Ori-Dent Clinic in Lviv
Doctors at the private dental clinic Ori-Dent in Lviv were found to lack the necessary qualifications during a procedure that tragically led to the passing away of 5-year-old Velez Pashnyk. The young boy fell into a coma after having milk teeth extracted under general anesthesia, eventually passing away in the intensive care unit a month later.
Expert Commission’s Conclusion
At a meeting held on April 11, the clinic’s expert commission of the Lviv Regional State Administration’s Health Department issued a conclusion stating that the dentist and anesthesiologist involved in the procedure did not have the required qualifications. The commission, head by Volodymyr Chorny, noted significant shortcomings in the medical care provided to Velez.
According to Chorny, the dentist and anesthesiologist lacked training in pediatric dentistry and pediatric anesthesiology, which are essential for treating children. Instead, they had training in adult dentistry and adult anesthesiology, leading to the tragic outcome for young Velez.
The meeting was attended by the boy’s father, lawyers, healthcare representatives, as well as the implicated medical professionals from the clinic. The expert commission’s findings shed light on the need for proper qualifications and training when providing medical care to children.
