Ukraine’s Grain Export Trends

During the period of 2022-2023, Ukraine increased grain exports by 0.643 million tons, which is 1.5%. However, exports of wheat flour and flour from other grains decreased by 33%, reaching 87.6 thousand tons, 43.2 thousand tons less than the previous year. Despite this, Ukraine managed to achieve pre-war export levels.

In the 2023-2024 period, grain exports were as follows:

  • 16.002 million tons of wheat
  • 2.214 million tons of barley
  • 1.3 thousand tons of rye
  • 23.292 million tons of corn

However, despite the increase in physical export volumes, the value of exported goods decreased by 18.7%, reaching 35.8 billion dollars. For example, corn exports, which increased by 5% in volume, brought in 16.8% less revenue in monetary terms compared to the previous year. These are some of the lowest export revenues in the past decade, due to not only falling prices in the global market but also logistical problems, as well as the flow of income to neighboring countries, where a significant portion of Ukrainian grain is resold.
