«Ukrenergo» warns that Ukraine may face a shortage of electricity in the summer due to Russian attacks, according to the material «Threats from Russia and mobilization in a new way. What awaits Ukraine in the front and in the rear».

«During the summer, we can expect periodic shortages of electricity in the Ukrainian energy system due to massive Russian attacks on power plants. The restoration of the functioning of our power plants will take a significant amount of time,» said Maria Tsaturian, Director of Communications at Ukrenergo.

She also emphasized that spring and summer are periods of repair work at power plants, preparing for the next heating season. The repair campaign at nuclear power plants has already begun, and the number of stations that will be forced to undergo temporary repairs during the spring and summer will increase.

«Therefore, sometimes we may observe a shortage in the system, which we will try to cover by importing electricity from Europe. In case of insufficient imports, we will have to resort to emergency assistance or impose consumption restrictions on industry and businesses,» Tsaturian explained.

The shortage of electricity in Ukraine may persist due to significant damage from recent Russian attacks. This is likely to result in outages even in the summer. Due to the need to repair nuclear units and insufficient thermal generation to compensate for losses, the summer period will be characterized by a shortage of generation.

President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that almost all of Ukraine’s thermal power generation has been destroyed by Russia. In addition, hydroelectric power plants, gas networks, and other infrastructure have also been hit by terrorist attacks. Zelensky stressed that Russian terror also threatens the infrastructure of nuclear power plants and power grids.
