Ukraine Faces Financial Challenges in Restoring Energy Facilities After Attacks
Ukraine really needs significant financial resources to restore energy facilities after attacks by the Russian Federation. Electricity tariffs may increase this year due to the need to attract significant financial resources to restore energy facilities after Russian attacks.
This was stated by the head of the State Energy Inspection of Ukraine Ruslan Slobodian, the press service of the State Energy Supervision reported.
«It is likely that we will have to consider the possibility of using internal reserves — reviewing the electricity tariff. … Since a really large financial resource is needed to restore energy facilities, the first stage of such an increase may be appropriate already this year,» — Slobodian pointed out that earlier the National Bank of Ukraine published a forecast, which mentioned a gradual increase in tariffs over several years, however, the NBU forecast also noted that electricity prices could rise faster due to the difficult situation in the energy sector.
According to preliminary calculations, losses have exceeded $1 billion in the last month and a half. Covering them only through the current electricity tariff and the international assistance available today is impossible, so efforts are being made to find ways to address this issue.
Commenting on the possibility of blackouts, Slobodian noted that there is no talk of a total blackout. «But disconnections, unfortunately, are possible. It all depends on how successfully the damaged energy facilities can be restored before the heating season begins,» he emphasized.
