Alexander Pavlyuk: New Brigades Formed for Defense of Kyiv
Alexander Pavlyuk, the commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stated in an interview with The Economist, that Ukraine’s main task now is to form 10 new brigades for preparation in case of a possible advance by Russian occupiers.
Although mobilization in Ukraine has slowed down since December, according to Pavlyuk, the main problem remains not the number of people, but the technical equipment.
Part of these new military forces will be involved in the defense of the capital. The general emphasized that even two and a half years after the retreat of the Russian army from the Kyiv region, their ambitions regarding the final capture of the Ukrainian capital remain unchanged.
«The defense of Kyiv remains one of the main priorities of our defense forces, even in the situation in the east. This is the heart of Ukraine, and we understand the important role the defense of the capital will play in the future,» he explained.
